Tile installation FAQ · Tampa Bay
STRAIGHT ANSWERS
Real questions homeowners ask us during estimates. If yours isn't here, just call — we'll give you the same direct answer.
Cost & Pricing
How much does tile installation cost in Tampa Bay?+
Most Tampa Bay tile projects fall in these ranges: custom shower $1,200–$4,500, bathroom floor $5–$15/sq ft installed, kitchen backsplash $800–$3,000, full bathroom remodel $5,000–$20,000. Final price depends on tile choice, substrate condition, and complexity. We give free in-home estimates with no obligation.
Do you charge for an estimate?+
No. In-home estimates are free across Tampa Bay. We typically schedule within 24–48 hours of your call.
Do you offer financing?+
We don't offer in-house financing, but most homeowners use a home-equity line or contractor financing through Synchrony or Hearth for larger remodels. We're happy to provide the documentation any financing partner needs.
Why is professional tile installation more expensive than DIY?+
Substrate prep, waterproofing (Schluter Kerdi or equivalent), and clean grout lines are what separate a 30-year install from a 5-year leak. Most failed bathroom tile we replace was either DIY or a low-bid contractor who skipped waterproofing. The cost difference is small compared to a leak repair down the line.
Timeline & Process
How long does bathroom tile installation take?+
Typical timelines: kitchen backsplash 1–2 days, bathroom floor 2–3 days, custom shower 5–7 days, full bathroom remodel 10–14 days. Drying time between waterproofing, mortar, and grout is the main constraint — we don't rush the steps that matter.
How soon can you start?+
Most projects book 1–3 weeks out depending on season. Smaller jobs (backsplash, small floor) sometimes start within the week. We confirm a real start date during the estimate, not a 'we'll get back to you'.
Do I need to be home during the work?+
Not for the whole day, but we like a quick check-in at the start and end of each day. You'll get daily progress photos either way.
What if you find unexpected issues mid-project?+
We stop, photograph it, walk you through what we found, and give a clear cost to address it before moving forward. No surprise invoices.
Materials & Florida-Specific
What tile holds up best in Florida humidity?+
Porcelain is our top recommendation for Tampa Bay — lower water absorption (under 0.5%) than ceramic, and it handles humidity, salt air, and temperature swings without issue. Large-format porcelain (24×24, 24×48) is increasingly popular for both floors and showers because it reduces grout lines.
Is natural stone (marble, travertine) okay in Florida?+
Yes, but it requires sealing every 12–18 months in our climate, and certain stones (some marbles) etch with acidic cleaners. We use it on bathroom walls, vanity surrounds, and lighter-traffic floors. For wet showers we usually recommend porcelain that looks like marble — same look, fraction of the upkeep.
What is Schluter waterproofing and why does it matter?+
Schluter Kerdi is a sheet-membrane waterproofing system that goes between the substrate and tile. It blocks all moisture from reaching the structure, which matters in Florida where humidity is constant. Older 'mud bed and tar paper' methods are 30 years out of date. We use Schluter on every wet area we install.
Can I supply my own tile?+
Yes. Many clients buy tile from Floor & Decor or a local distributor — we'll quote labor only. We do recommend you order 10–15% extra for cuts, future repairs, and dye-lot matching.
Warranty & Insurance
What's your warranty?+
We offer a 10-year workmanship warranty on all installations. Tile and grout manufacturers carry their own warranties on the materials.
Are you licensed and insured?+
Yes — fully licensed for tile installation in Florida, with general liability and workers' comp. We provide certificates of insurance on request.
What if something goes wrong after the warranty?+
We're a family business — we're not going anywhere. Most issues outside warranty are minor (cracked grout, edge chip) and we fix them at cost or for free if it's our work.
Service Area & Booking
What areas do you serve?+
All of Tampa Bay — Hillsborough, Pinellas, and Pasco counties. Primary service: South Tampa, Brandon, Wesley Chapel, Westchase, New Tampa, Lutz, Carrollwood, Riverview, Clearwater, St. Petersburg, Land O' Lakes, Palm Harbor, and surrounding cities.
Do you do commercial work?+
Our focus is residential — single-family homes, condos, and townhomes. We occasionally do small commercial (boutique retail, restaurant restrooms) but only by referral.
Can I see examples of your work?+
Yes — our gallery has before/after photos. We also bring a portfolio binder to every estimate and can connect you with past clients in your area if you want references.
